The <title> tag

<title> sets the document's title, which the browser shows in the tab and search engines show as the clickable headline in results.

Syntax

<title>Page title</title>

Example

<title>Pricing — HTML Tools</title>

Notes

  • There must be exactly one title per document, inside head.
  • The sweet spot for search results is roughly 50-60 characters — longer titles may get truncated.

Accessibility

  • Screen readers announce the title as soon as a page loads — it's the first thing a user hears.
